ADAPTIVE SKILLS TRAINING (AST)

What is adaptive skills training?

The term "adaptive skills" means how well a person can deal with the tasks of everyday life.
These tasks include the ability to speak and understand; home-living skills; use of community
resources; leisure, self-care, self-direction and work skills.

Some of the goals that we help our consumers are as follows:

SVEI (Silicon Valley Early
Intervention) program focuses on
teaching the individual/child to
appropriately apply all new and learned
skills and information across all settings
and people

Self- help skills (example: toileting, tooth brushing, dressing etc.).
Parents will still be responsible to teach their child self help skills. We at
SVABACS we will start to have the consumer learn the basic skill and
provide training to parents on how to implement or carry-out the plan of
action. Detailed intervention plan will be provided depending on the
case/issue.

Safety Skills (proper behavior in community and following the safety
measures to keep safe) Most of individual with learning disabilities
doesn�t have safety skills. We at SVABACS, we help consumers learn
the basic safety skills they need to learn in the community. Some
impulsive behavior modification (create a solid environment offering
love, stability and safety for consumers) will be utilized to meet this
goal.

Anxiety related to fear and phobias- We at SVABACS can heal
anxiety problems related to fear and phobias. Anxiety can be reduced
and fade-out. Such techniques will be used (Cognitive Behavior
Therapy).

Intensive parent training- part of our intensive training is to provide
consistency to implement behavior strategies and to prevent the
antecedents following the behavior. We at SVABACS, we will provide
effective parenting techniques related to the problem behavior and
learn more skills to manage challenging behaviors when they arise.

At SVABACS, we provide adaptive skills training for individuals from 3years and above to
meet their on-going struggle and provide intensive training to both consumers and parents to
reinforce mastery of skill. Skills can be learn through constant repetition of tasks and gradually
increasing the level on each aspect of development.
